The Richest Countries in the World

GDP per capita is often considered an indicator of the standard of living of a given country, as it reflects the average wealth of each person residing in a country. It is therefore the standard method used to compare how poor or wealthy countries are in relation to each other.  As we get closer to 2019, we decided to take a look at our forecasts for GDP per capita from 2019 to 2022 for the 127 countries we cover to get an idea of what countries are the wealthiest currently and how the rankings will change over the coming years.  The projections used in this study are Consensus Forecasts based on the individual forecasts of over 1000 world renowned investment banks, economic think tanks and professional economic forecasting firms.

 

Unlike some of our other lists such as the most miserable economies in the world and the poorest countries in the world, this is one of those lists that being near the top is definitely a good thing. Interestingly, some of the smallest countries in the world are the richest in the world. In fact, of the major economies, only the United States makes it in the top 10. Countries like China and India, which have made great economic strides in recent years, are nowhere near the top countries in terms of GDP per capita. Of the other largest economies in the world, Germany, Canada, France, the UK and Japan are the closest to the top 10 coming in at 15th, 18th, 19th, 20th and 23rd respectively, according to our forecasts for 2019 GDP per capita.

With that said, let’s take a look at the richest economies in the world according to Consensus Forecasts for 2019 and 2022 GDP per capita.
